A superb patina, as is very often the case with these turned boxwood objects from the 19th century, where time leaves its mark in this way. Here we have a truly rare model: a spherical container box on a pedestal. Its original use remains to be determined, but the interior is still slightly tinned, indicating that it was intended to hold foodstuffs, probably tea. In any case, today it's a beautiful folk art object that stands on its own.
