Thomas-François CARTIER 1879 / 1943:
Thomas Cartier was a French sculptor, born in Marseille on February 21, 1879, who died in 1943.
A pupil of Georges Gardet, he exhibited animals at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Arts Décoratifs as early as 1904 and in 1907; gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1922 for a sculpture of a she-wolf named "L'alerte".
In 1927 gold medal at the Salon des Arts Décoratifs; in 1931, he participated in the Exposition Coloniale.
He is considered a major artist from the beginning of the 20th century in his specialty: animal sculpture.
He works in materials such as Bronze, but also plaster, stoneware and terracotta.
