The handles are in fine embossed and chased silver, with rich, refined decoration of scrolls and ornamental motifs, typical of 19th-century Parisian silverware. The functional parts are in metal, with elements in organic material (probably ivory or bone) for some pieces, providing an elegant aesthetic contrast.
The original box, sheathed in leather on the outside and blue satin on the inside, bears the mark:
"Robert Degeresme, Goldsmith, 18 rue Saint-Sulpice, Paris", a renowned house in the capital.
