Antique White Enameled Cast-iron Washstand Base, Late 19th Century
White enameled cast-iron washstand base, of Italian or French manufacture, dated to the late 19th century.
This type of structure, both utilitarian and decorative, was commonly used for washstands in bourgeois homes.
The upper frieze features a rich pattern of palmettes and beading, characteristic of late Neoclassical taste and the early influences of Art Nouveau.
The side supports are adorned with a griffin interlaced with foliage and spiral scrolls, evoking vegetal and marine forms that visually lighten the structure.
Overall in good condition, with signs of use and light oxidation consistent with age. The upper basin support brackets are preserved and functional. The structure remains stable.
