An important chest from the Friuli region, made of wood and entirely decorated in tempera with vibrant folk colors. The front is divided into three main panels, framed by painted architectural elements and punctuated by a rich upper ornamental band featuring rhythmic motifs.
The two side panels feature landscape scenes with sacred architecture, slender bell towers, rural buildings, and stylized trees animated by small birds in flight.
In the center stands an ornamental coat of arms in a symbolic style, characterized by a floral motif enclosed within decorative scrolls.
Stylistic Analysis
The painted decoration is distinguished by the straightforward and immediate style typical of Friulian folk art between the 18th and 19th centuries.
The chest rests on solid, shaped legs and features a front enriched with carved and painted elements, including a lower central panel with a plant motif. Iron side handles and signs of wear consistent with its age are visible.
The hinged top lid retains its original function as a container.
Inside, there is a coin compartment and three small drawers.
This piece stands out for its generous dimensions, vibrant colors, and rich decoration, making it a visually striking item of great collector’s appeal.
