Superb rectangular-shaped writing desk with slightly sloping lid,made of precious wood veneer and rich Boulle-style marquetrybrass and contrasting elements (probably pewter or tinted mother-of-pearl).mother-of-pearl).

Thedecor, of great finesse, features a sumptuous ornamental repertoire arabesques and symmetrical cartouches, organized around a central medallion. central medallion. The whole bears witness to the eclectic and refined tasteof the Second Empire, inspired by 17th-century modelsin the spirit of André-Charles Boulle.

The interior accommodates its two original inkwells, completing this elegant and functional office piece.
