Gilded Wooden Hunting Attributes, 18th Century

An elegant Louis XVI period carved and gilded wooden overdoor, depicting hunting symbols in a beautiful composition.

The central figure is hidden behind a falling ribbon, its left side pierced by an arrow. On either side of this symbol stand a quiver and a torch, arranged in a cross. Passing behind and below them is a bow.
The whole is crowned by an elegantly folded ribbon bow tied with a rosette from which delicate tassel-like trimmings hang in front and behind.
The composition is surrounded by leafy branches, adding movement to the overall effect.

This type of decorative composition, featuring hunting symbols, was very fashionable during the reign of Louis XVI. The carving is fine, well-balanced, and retains its original gilding.

Highly fashionable during the reign of Louis XVI, this type of gilded wooden overdoor reflects a decorative tradition inherited from Antiquity, where weapons, repurposed from their original function, became ornamental elements and symbols of power. The finely chiseled carving demonstrates meticulous craftsmanship and a keen sense of composition, enhanced by beautiful gilding.
Designed to adorn overdoors, these decorative elements were intended to capture the eye and enrich the interior architecture. They were placed in the drawing rooms, armories, or reception rooms of aristocratic residences, contributing to the grandeur and refinement of the décor.

Beautifully crafted and finely chiseled 18th-century piece, retaining its original gilding.
