Umberto Ongania - Venice - late 19th century - Italy Grand Tour watercolor - Umberto Ongania was an Italian painter, born in Venice in 1867 and died in the same city in 1942. The artist produced primarily paintings and watercolors of views of Venice. His smoke drawings are also highly regarded. In 1887, his drawing "La Porta della Carta" was exhibited at the Universal Exhibition in Venice. Ongania was best known internationally for his views of the lagoon city. He died in Venice in 1942.
