Fernand Maillaud Scène De Vie Paysanne Dans Le Berry - école De Crozant
Superb (HSP) by Fernand Maillaud, an emblematic figure of the Crozant school.
This luminous composition illustrates a scene of rural life bathed in softness, characteristic of the artist's work. In the foreground, peasants bustle about in a rural landscape, enlivening the scene with a simple, authentic human presence. In the background, a peaceful horizon and a few dwellings suggest the depth and territorial anchorage dear to Maillaud.
The subtle palette blends warm, earthy tones with delicately nuanced touches of greens and blues, lending the whole a vibrant yet serene atmosphere. The slender trees, treated with suppleness, structure the composition and bear witness to the Impressionist influence characteristic of the Crozant school.

Fernand Maillaud was born in Mouhet, Indre, in 1863 and died in 1948. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and then the Salon d'Automne.
Close to the landscape painters of the Creuse valley, he became one of the leading figures of the Crozant School, alongside artists such as Armand Guillaumin. His work is deeply inspired by the landscapes of Berry, rural scenes and peasant life, which he translates into sensitive, luminous painting.
His works are today held in several public collections and museums.
