Earthenware Plate Decorated With Chinese Portrait And Parasol Les Islettes 18th Century
Late 18th century earthenware plate, attributed to the Manufacture des Islettes, with polychrome decoration of a Chinese figure seated under an umbrella, in a small stylized landscape. The central decoration is surrounded on the rim by floral and foliate reserves painted in deep pink and green, the whole highlighted by a brown fillet on the rim. Very fine decorative presence, with a lively, fresh and spontaneous painting, typical of these quality popular productions.
We particularly like the frankness of the design, the skilful simplicity of the character, the beautiful distribution of colors and the contrast between the whiteness of the enamel and the bright tones of the decoration. A charming and expressive piece, representative of the Chinese taste in French earthenware of the late 18th century.
Condition: no cracks, no restoration. There are three edge chips, located at noon, around 2 o'clock and around 3 o'clock. Some minor firing irregularities and slight traces of use compatible with the period. See photos.
