Louis XVI Period Marquetry Secretary Desk (needs Restoration)
An elegant Louis XVI period secretary desk in precious wood, opening at the front with four drawers and a drop-front. Each drawer is adorned with geometric marquetry in a chevron pattern, framed by stringing, highlighting the richness of the woods used. The drop-front reveals a secretary interior (drawers, compartments, writing surface), adding both functionality and visual interest to this piece. The whole is embellished with chased bronze mounts (handles, keyhole escutcheons, and side corner mounts decorated with foliage), typical of the Louis XVI style. The piece rests on slightly cabriole legs, offering an elegant and balanced silhouette. A very beautiful dual-purpose piece, combining practicality and refinement, characteristic of the late 18th century. Condition: used, restorations, minor wear and slight damage in places, marble top missing. Marked on the back. Materials: precious woods, marquetry, gilt bronze. Period: 18th century. Dimensions: 143 x 65 x 35.
