Plaster bust produced by the Louvre's molding workshops, depicting Marie-Madeleine Guimard, "la Guimard" (1743-1816), one of the most celebrated dancers of the late 18th century, whose portrait painted by Fragonard is held at the Louvre. Based on a marble composition by Gaetano Merchi, born in Beschia, Italy, who settled in Paris in 1773 where he created numerous busts of famous figures of the time. Minor losses to the ivy hair.
