In pristine original condition, this rare depiction of Saint Melange, reclining in a summer glade, blesses a group of rabbits with her left hand. Legend, dating back to the 7th century, tells of Melange as a nun living in the wilderness of the kingdom of Powys, where she became the supernatural protector of rabbits and hares against hunters and their hounds.
