Mithé Espelt, "titmouse" Mirror
Lunel workshop, France, circa 1965-1975.
Stamped earthenware, glazed in shades of blue, turquoise and green, enhanced with crackled gold, decorated with stylized flowers and a bird.
Charming wall mirror of quadrangular shape with softened corners, framed by a composition in glazed ceramic in slight relief.
The decoration, arranged in a peripheral register, combines a rhythmic floral motif of stylized turquoise flowers with ivory centers and green foliage, with a titmouse occupying the lower part.
The deep, almost nocturnal, blue enameled background highlights the bold colors and the gilt accents that emphasize the contours and subtly capture the light.
The cloisonné treatment of the motifs, characteristic of the artist, gives the whole a graphic clarity and immediate decorative elegance.
The central mirror, framed by a gilt border, fits harmoniously into this composition, which is both poetic and sophisticated.
