This pair of gilt bronze chenets (andirons, firedogs) was crafted in the nineteenth century, presumably in France. The architectural composition is centred around classical urns, flanked by expressive bas-reliefs of mythological beasts connected by leaf garlands, referencing the iconography of antiquity.
