17th-century oil on canvas painting depicting the Madonna Reading by Francesco Botti (1640-1711). Francesco Botti is considered one of the most interesting and representative figures in the panorama of 17th-century Florentine painting, even though few documentary testimonies of this painter have survived. The most exhaustive are included in the "Catalogue of Florentine painters of the 17th century" by Sandro Bellesi. This painting, characterized by a strong expressiveness, depicts the Virgin Mary with her hands crossed on her chest in a moment of profound devotion and reflection while reading a book.
