Silver Teapot, France, Circa 1850
A repoussé and chased silver teapot resting on a four-footed base adorned with openwork shell motifs. The body, with its bulbous and polylobed belly, is decorated halfway up with pearls and acanthus leaves. The spout features a rich, chased rocaille-style decoration. The overhanging, polylobed neck is bordered with stylized acanthus leaf scrolls. The crook-shaped handle has thumb rests and insulators. The hinged lid, with its polylobed dome, is surmounted by a finial in the form of a blooming flower. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmark. Maker's mark: Hippolyte-Pierre Bompard, active in Paris from 1834 to 1850.
