Art Deco Stoneware Vase, Roger And Marc François, Malicorne
Glazed stoneware vase with a central motif of stylized leaves framed at the neck and base by friezes of geometric patterns.
In the 1930s, the François du Sablon pottery in Malicorne produced stoneware with a modern aesthetic, in keeping with the Art Deco movement. It ceased operations in 1939.
The treatment of the decoration, geometric yet also fluid and organic, and the colors—the blue outline of the leaves against a gray background, here enriched with brushed shades of mauve and lime green—create a piece that is both characteristic and unique.
A circular stamp, "RF ses grès son art Malicorne," is impressed above the motto "Le feu est notre maître" (Fire is our master); a monogram is on the body of the vase.
1930s
Very good condition – a very small chip on the rim of the base.
