Spanish School (circa 1920) - The Battleship "españa"
Oil on panel. Hand-signed. Launched in Cartagena in 1912, the España was the first of a series of three battleships ordered to modernize the fleet after the disaster of 1898. The painting exudes an impression of power and nostalgia: the black smoke from its boilers mingles with a hazy sky, evoking the era when these steel giants dominated the oceans.
