Pierre-Jean Abattucci, 1871-1942, Belgian painter, etcher, and lithographer. He was initially a student of François Stroobant at the School of Decorative Arts in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, before entering the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels where he studied under Jean-François Portaels and Joseph Stallaert from 1892 to 1897. After his studies, he was appointed professor of drawing at the School of Decorative Arts where he himself had begun his career, and subsequently embarked on a long study trip to Italy, an experience that profoundly influenced his work. He began his career exhibiting at the Salon du Cercle L'Art Libre, then regularly participated in the Brussels salons of the Royal Society of Fine Arts and the Cercle Artistique et Littéraire. He held solo exhibitions at the Cercle du Vauxhall in 1921 and 1935, but had already exhibited in 1912 with Émile Jacques, and then in 1924 with Eric Wansart, Prosper De Wit, Jenny Montigny, and Henriette Bosché. In 1920, he also participated in the Salon d'Automne alongside Firmin Baes, Henri Binard, Louis Buisseret, Hubert Glansdorff, and Gustave Max Stevens. Close to Symbolism and Neo-Impressionism, he developed a style marked by sobriety, balance, and an inner quest. Artist listed in Bénézit, Arto, and Piron, and listed on Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc.
