Silver Teapot, Netherlands, Circa 1850
A silver ewer resting on a circular base. The body is bulbous with six lobes at the bottom, forming petals highlighted with stripes that extend up to the narrow neck, which maintains the same polylobed shape at the top. This neck also forms lanceolate leaves descending towards the bottom of the body. The handle is volute-shaped, decorated with acanthus leaves, has a thumb rest, and is fitted with an insulator. The domed lid is surmounted by a finial in the form of a hibiscus. Dutch work, 800/1000 silver, circa 1853. Hallmarked with a standard, date letter, and guarantee mark. Maker's mark.
