This two-piece Directoire period buffet/bookcase, crafted from solid walnut in the late 18th century, features two glazed doors opening to reveal shelves for displaying books, earthenware, or collectibles. The lower section has two solid doors with wide panels of solid walnut, showcasing a beautiful natural wood grain. The uprights are straight, and the molded cornice is understated, characteristic of Directoire period furniture. The piece presents an elegant and balanced design, typical of furniture transitioning between the Louis XVI and Empire styles. The walnut has a beautiful antique patina.
