Exquisite modernist bronze crucifix with brown patina and cross on a rosewood base. It is signed on the side LAMBERT RUCKI. Total height 33 cm (the age of Christ at his death, a coincidence??). Dimensions of bronze Christ 17 x 16 cm. Dimensions of base 14 x 14 cm. Jean Lambert-Rucki was a painter and sculptor born on September 17, 1888 in Krakow (Poland). He became a naturalized French citizen after the First World War. In February 1911, he settled in Paris and enrolled at the Académie Colarossi, where he associated with artists such as Modigliani, Soutine, Marc Chagall, and Fernand Léger. Between 1920 and 1940, he worked for Jean Dunand. In 1927, he married Léonie Bickel (1892-1975), the daughter of sculptor Victor Émile Bickel (1865-1937). Initially drawn to Cubism, he turned to Surrealism in the 1930s. In 1931, he joined the Union of Modern Artists, and in 1936, he died on July 29, 1967, in Paris.
