View Of The Mer De Glace At Montenvers, Chamonix-mont-blanc. Oil On Canvas, Signed H. Hudzinski
Artist: Helen Hudzinski
Superb oil on canvas depicting the Mer de Glace glacier as seen from Montenvers in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, mid-20th century. The canvas is signed by Helen Hudzinski (1918-2014). A mythical view of the Alps with a stunning backdrop of the Drus, the Grandes Jorasses, and the Grands Charmoz. On the left, the Mer de Glace and its seracs are depicted in all their splendor with lagoon blue and emerald green hues. On the right is the Montenvers refuge, which allowed mountaineers to rest before embarking on major ascents. The small path, the starting point for excursions, is enlivened by figures gazing at the landscape. Painted with a palette knife in 1954, the very warm colors are quite rare for a work depicting a mountain landscape. The mountains have shades of pinkish-gray ranging to purple. The glaciers display all the nuances of blue and green one might find in a painting representing a southern sea. The path, like The few trees on the right have very warm ochre hues. This painting is luminous and large enough to allow for real immersion in the landscape. Signed in the lower left corner by Helen Hudzinski, dated 1954, and located on the back. Wooden frame. Helen Hudzinski (1918-2014) was from New Jersey, USA. Length: 103.6 cm, Width: 76.6 cm, Image size: 90.5 x 63.5 cm
