Jj Blanc Wall Fountain In Chased Pewter From Lyon With Coat Of Arms, 18th Century
Large, finely carved wall fountain with a walnut base. Made of pewter in a crossbow shape, decorated with seashells, it features a bronze tap in the form of an animal's head.
Made by Jacques Joseph Blanc of Lyon (hallmark, see photo).
This hallmark is attributed to Jacques Joseph Blanc, who became a master craftsman towards the end of the 18th century and was active until 1813.
A knight's helmet is depicted above a coat of arms.
The coat of arms represents the union of two families: on the left, a wealthy noble family represented by five circles called Besans and two chevrons below; on the right, a half-fleur-de-lis representing a member of the royal family.
