Large Giltwood Mirror, Louis XV Style — 19th Century
A carved and gilded wooden mantel mirror in the Rococo style of the 18th century. The frame is decorated with scrolls, acanthus leaves, and C-shaped volutes characteristic of the Louis XV style. The central pediment features a decoration of foliate tendrils and shells. The mirror, with its original mercury backing, displays dendritic oxidation typical of antique mirrors, attesting to its authenticity. There is wear and occasional loss of gilding, consistent with its age.
