Bust portrait of the celebrated Elizabethan statesman, soldier, writer, and explorer, wearing a fur-lined cloak, a white doublet, and a pearl earring. Inscribed and presented in a deep antique carved and gilt frame decorated with foliage. Inscription at the top left: "AMOR ET VIRTUTE" [By love and virtue] and at the top right: "AETATIS SVAE 34 / AN 1588" [Age of the sitter (34) / date: 1588].
