Jean Jaffeux Bull Cup Ceramic Lava Stone 20th Century Circa 1950/60 (j. Lurçat)
Artist: Jean Jaffeux
Red, Brown, and White Bull Bowl. Beautiful lava stone enamel incisions depicting a Camargue bull in motion, its horns thrust forward. Jean Jaffeux, an artist from the Auvergne region, came from a family of artists and settled in the Puy-de-Dôme. He was a ceramicist specializing in lava stone enameling and a decorative painter. He met Jean Lurçat and also Lurçat's friend Paul Corriger, who had been working with lava stone since the 1950s. His enameling work on lava stone is decorative and exceptionally well-executed, as he learned from Jean Borel (1886-1990). The base is glazed gray-green. In good condition, with a small chip in the enamel at the base. Dimensions: 24.5 cm in diameter, 6.5 cm in height.
