Pair Of Gilt Bronze Candlesticks – Empire Period, France (1805–1815)

A pair of finely chased and mercury-gilded bronze candlesticks, characteristic of the Neoclassical elegance of the French Empire period during the reign of Napoleon I. Each candlestick takes the form of a richly sculpted classical female figure, inspired by Greco-Roman iconography rediscovered in the early 19th century. The figures support an elegant candle holder, resting on a cylindrical base decorated with military motifs and imperial emblems, emblematic elements of the decorative vocabulary of the period. The quality of the chasing, the harmony of the proportions, and the finesse of the gilding testify to the remarkable skill of French bronze workers of the early 19th century. Height: 31 cm
