Sèvres Biscuit Porcelain Bust of Joseph Bara. Magnificent biscuit porcelain sculpture depicting the 13-year-old drummer boy, an iconic martyr of the French Revolution. He died for his ideals, embodying the youthful heroism celebrated by Robespierre. The finely chiseled portrait shows him in hussar uniform, holding a kazoo bearing the historic inscription "Equality, Liberty, or Death." The elegant cobalt blue porcelain base is highlighted with gold and inscribed "BARRA." A work of great refinement, perfect for art and history collectors. Sèvres, 1885. Very good condition.
