Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) “Heads” Pitcher – 1956 Picasso Edition – Madoura Workshop, Vallauris Reference: Ramié 368 Edition: 500 copies Height: 12.5 cm – Width: 16.5 cm A very beautiful white terracotta pitcher with a painted decoration using oxidized paraffin, covered with a brilliant white glaze with magnificent bluish reflections. This luminous white tone, almost iridescent depending on the light, is particularly sought after and gives the piece a remarkable visual presence. Made in 1956 in the Madoura workshop in Vallauris, this emblematic model from Picasso's production perfectly illustrates the artist's graphic freedom in the field of ceramics. The decoration features a stylized face rendered with a deliberate and expressive line, accompanied by simplified plant motifs. The balance between the rounded form and the spontaneous design lends the piece a timeless modernity. The glazed surface captures the light and reveals superb bluish hues against the white background, contrasting with the deep browns of the decoration. The piece is at once decorative, powerful, and instantly recognizable as a work by Picasso. The base bears the impressed stamps "Madoura Plein Feu" and "Empreinte originale de Picasso," as well as the painted inscription "Edition Picasso." This model is referenced in Alain Ramié's catalogue raisonné under number 368. A certificate of authenticity is included. Condition: excellent overall condition. There are only three very slight, discreet, and superficial glaze losses on the neck, with no significant structural or visual impact. Madoura ceramics from the 1950s represent a particularly dynamic segment of the market today. Their value continues to rise, supported by strong and consistent international demand. This model, from a limited edition of 500 copies, represents a safe bet and a solid investment in the work of Picasso. An authentic, luminous, decorative and heritage piece.
