Artist: Henri Rivière
This lithograph, “Au Vent de Noroît - Les Mousses” (In the Northwest Wind - The Mosses), is signed Henri Rivière and bears a red stamp in the lower right corner. The work is authentic and antique. For the most discerning, note a difference in margin size between the top and bottom, and slight yellowing of the paper in the margin. As for the lithograph itself, it is in superb condition. The colors are very fresh, and once framed, most imperfections will be barely noticeable. Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved on to intaglio engraving, specifically etching, in 1882. Simultaneously, in 1886, he embarked on a career as a director and set designer, creating shadow puppet shows at the Chat Noir cabaret, performances which he enhanced by designing highly innovative, colorful sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolor (he painted approximately a thousand watercolors).
