"Rectangular Art Deco Chandelier With Solid Glass Rods, Signed Henri Petitot, Circa 1930"
A rectangular Art Deco semi-ceiling light fixture with an architectural composition of horizontal layers. The entire piece rests on a rectangular nickel-plated metal frame that forms the supporting chassis. The structure, with its straight lines and sharp angles, features an engraving of the initials HP for Henri Petiot on the inside. The four lateral faces of the light box are made up of a series of perfectly straight, solid, clear glass cylinders, each held individually in metal profiles. These elements, which can be removed one by one, form a rhythmic wall of light. Light passes through the glass and is refracted within each cylinder, producing a continuous prismatic effect. The use of these solid glass cylindrical strips is one of the characteristic features of Petitot lighting fixtures, particularly in the 1930s models, where light became a structuring element of interior architecture. The underside is closed by a rectangular frosted glass plate, ensuring even diffusion. The upper section consists of a single rectangular sheet of tempered glass, its central surface frosted while the peripheral border remains transparent. This slab rests directly on the metal frame and harmoniously extends the proportions of the central body, accentuating the horizontal and modernist feel of the whole. French work, Art Deco period, circa 1930.
