Biography of Claude WEISBUCH: (1927 - 2014)
Born in 1927 in Thionville, Weisbuch became a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy, then was appointed professor of engraving at the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne.
He initially participated in group exhibitions before being named a full member of the French Painter-Engravers Society in 1968. Since then, his reputation has steadily grown, and his work now enjoys worldwide recognition.
Graphically, Weisbuch demonstrated early on a remarkable ability to combine a distinctly classical style with a very contemporary sense of movement and layout.
Through his studies of musicians, as well as his tributes to Jacques Callot, Rembrandt, Lautrec, and Daumier, he showcases his capacity to convey passion and anguish, his sense of drama, and his mastery of composition.
An exceptional painter, engraver, and lithographer, Claude Weisbuch constantly sought to capture the dynamism of life like a snapshot, primarily focusing on humankind and its pictorial, musical, and literary expression.
Weisbuch received the Legion of Honour in 2007.
