A fine Louis XVI-style gilt bronze 6-light chandelier, titled “Arabesque with music making Children” (Arabesque aux enfants musiciens), after the model by Pierre Gouthière made for Marie Antoinette.
Three children seated on the central shaft representing a greek column surmounted by a flaming torch, are depicted blowing into trumpets (more specifically the buisine).
Six scrolling light arms adorned with acanthus leaves, rosettes, and leafy garlands, radiate gracefully from the central shaft.
This chandelier is after a model by Pierre Gouthière, of which the original model is preserved at Marie Antoinette’s gilt cabinet in Versailles.
Excellent quality of chasing and original gilding.
Louis XVI style, 19th century, circa 1890.
