"The Two Friends Christian Le Moult, Painter Of Fantasy "
Christian Le Moult, whose real name was Christian Maréchal, was known as the painter of fantasy. His work was exhibited by the renowned Brussels gallery, Isy Brachot, which has a worldwide reputation. A painter of the Belgian School, Christian Le Moult, born in 1941, trained at the Liège Academy (1965) where he won the Watteau Prize. Le Moult dealt with only one subject: woman. One could even say: one and the same woman, writes Michel Hubin, since his pictorial world is entirely occupied by a Venus whom Thomas Owen described as "pale, motionless, odorless." The writer also noted the theatrical nature of the setting in which this woman is presented and the insistence of the seductive effects that the painter attributes to her. Le Moult, who employed a meticulous, even painstaking, technique, undoubtedly stirred unease in some by repeatedly depicting his recurring motif. He died in Nice in 2024.
