Cecil Beaton developed a deep fascination for Hollywood star Greta Garbo very early on, long before they first met in 1932. Although they were both in other relationships at the time, the photographer fell deeply in love with the actress. When they met again in 1946, their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship. Beaton even proposed marriage; Garbo declined, thus ending their romance. Despite this breakup, the photographer took numerous portraits of the actress between 1946 and 1966.
