"E.val & Cie - Daum Art Deco Vase In Acid-etched And Enameled Glass "
Glass vase with a slightly raised, acid-etched and enameled decoration, signed VAL. The Val & Cie company, formerly Effler in Paris, directed by Eugène Val, has specialized in decorative glass and ceramic objects since 1892. The best-known Val brand is D'Argyl, registered in 1928. This vase was made in collaboration with Daum and its subsidiary in Croismare, the Lorraine art glassworks, formerly the Belle Étoile glassworks, directed by Paul Daum. From 1925, exclusive models for Val were produced by Daum until its closure in 1934. One of the largest models, conceived with a more graphic and stylized decoration than other, less elaborate models. Possibly a creation of Pierre d'Avesn, artistic director in Croismare at the time. Satin-finished blown glass, slightly tinted in shades of pink, with a stylized plant decoration etched with acid and enameled in dark purple. Good condition, minor scratches on the base. Old label from the late 1920s, from the retailer, on the reverse. Rare model. All questions welcome.
