Object description :

"Gabriel, Angel Of The Annunciation To Mary, Walnut Sculpture In High Relief, Late 17th Century"
Angel of the Annunciation, sculpted in high relief, late 17th century.
Large carved walnut panel in high relief dating from the late 17th century, depicting an angel of the Annunciation holding a palm branch and, with the other hand, pointing with the fingers of his right hand to warn the Virgin Mary!
This is Gabriel, the angel Gabriel!
The carving is very deep and in very high relief, highlighting a completely detached arm and hand, as well as a large part of the face.
Note the quality of the carving of the drapery, the face, and the hair.
This panel was likely painted in the past. It was slightly damaged by wood-boring insects but has been completely treated with Xylophene in the workshop.
There  are no longer any signs of insect infestation. Beautiful old patina in a light walnut color.

A very fine panel with a rare representation of an angel of the Annonciation wishes Gabriel holding a palm branch.

64 cm high x 34 cm wide x 10 cm at its deepest point.
