"Port of Marseille by Jean De Tchorlou" Oil on canvas measuring 38cm x 46cm plus frame, signed lower right. He is a decorative painter born in Turkey in 1892. In 1910, wanting to become a painter, he left his country for Paris. Upon landing in Marseille, he fell in love with the city. He studied painting, notably with Wartan Mahokian, who became his friend. At the end of his studies, he created his own studio at 25 Cours d'Estienne D'Orves, establishing in Marseille the Art Nouveau style of hand-painted posters. He worked for the Odéon, the Majestic, the Rialto, the Hollywood, and the Alcazar. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and achieved moderate success. He died in 1969 following an accident caused by a van that struck him. A roundabout in the 11th arrondissement of Marseille bears his name. Good condition.
