After studying art at UCLA, he began working as a freelance designer. He quickly gained a reputation for his bold and avant-garde designs, using materials such as acrylic and plexiglass to create unique furniture. In the 1960s, Jones became famous for his transparent acrylic furniture designs, which were featured in the most prestigious art galleries in New York and Los Angeles. He also worked with celebrities such as Frank Sinatra and Diana Ross, creating custom furniture for their homes. Over the years, Jones expanded his work to include lighting, creating lamps and light fixtures in acrylic and brass. His work is now part of the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
