This magnificent carpet has undergone a deep cleaning and meticulous inspection by our experts in our artisanal workshop. It is now ready to enhance your interior.

Born in Paris in 1914, Maurice André was in Aubusson from 1940 to 1945 alongside Lurçat, Gromaire, and many other artists. In 1945, he founded the cooperative group “Tapisserie de France” while continuing to be a member of the Association of Tapestry Cartoon Painters. He produced a wide range of works, including tapestries and carpets, paintings, and watercolors. Architecture and frescoes were his main points of reference; he appreciated their logic and simplicity and drew inspiration from them with remarkable economy of means. Some of his carpets are preserved at the Mobilier National in Paris.

Important carpet by Maurice André, signed in the weave, produced circa 1960. This piece stands out for its abstract and perfectly symmetrical composition, where organic and stylized forms intertwine in a dynamic graphic interplay. The design evokes vegetal silhouettes, typical of the artistic vocabulary of the period, creating a rich and structured visual effect.

The color palette harmoniously combines deep green, celadon green, ochre, brown, and golden yellow tones, giving the piece warmth and depth. The vegetal ornamental border reinforces the balance of the composition and highlights the decorative character of the carpet.

Carefully woven, this carpet illustrates the textile craftsmanship and aesthetic research characteristic of 1960s design. A strong decorative piece, it integrates equally well into a modernist interior or a contemporary setting.
