"Louis XV Corner Cabinet In Rosewood - Stamped François Garnier - 18th Century"
Louis XV Corner Cabinet in Rosewood - Stamped François GARNIER - 18th Century. An elegant Louis XV period curved corner cabinet in rosewood veneer, featuring exceptional geometric marquetry known as "butterfly wing" or "leaf" marquetry. This high-quality piece bears the stamp "FG" on the upper right stile, the mark of the Parisian cabinetmaker François Garnier (received as a Master before 1740), one of the most talented craftsmen on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine during the reign of Louis XV. Main features: • Front: It opens with two doors decorated with rosewood frieze within end-grain wood frames, highlighting a perfect curve. • Interior: A rare luxury detail, the reverse of the doors is also inlaid with a lozenge pattern. The cabinet retains its original shelves and its large period brass cremone bolt. • Ornamentation: Rich original gilt and chased bronze mounts (rocaille keyhole escutcheons, foliage-decorated drops, apron, and feet). • Top: Magnificent marble slab (Brocatelle or Rouge Royal type) perfectly following the curves of the piece. Historical note: François Garnier is renowned for the rigor of his compositions and the quality of the woods he used. His works are now featured in prestigious private and museum collections.
