Refined oil on canvas portrait by Antonio Zona (Gambellara di Mira, 1814 – Rome, 1892), a prominent figure of Italian academic painting in the 19th century. The painting is signed upper right “A. Zona”, in a manner consistent with the artist’s known signatures. The young woman is portrayed in three-quarter view, with a thoughtful and romantic expression; she wears a striped blue and white dress, adorned with a dark necklace. The brushwork is soft and controlled, with a balanced and luminous palette.Condition of the paintingThe painting has undergone professional cleaning and conservative restoration, restoring its full chromatic clarity. It is currently in good condition, with natural age-related craquelure and no significant paint losses or lifting.FrameOf particular interest is the carved and gilded wooden frame, not original to the painting but considerably earlier, datable to the early 18th century.Made of softwood (probably Swiss pine), the frame is richly carved with rocaille scrolls, foliage and dynamic motifs, and finished with water gilding executed using traditional techniques.Based on stylistic features, construction methods and original nailwork, the frame can be attributed to a Northern Italian production, likely Belluno–Trentino area, with Venetian influence. The frame was adapted to the painting at a later date.A crack to the crest (cimasa) is noted, with a recent restoration re-gluing, stable and well integrated. Overall, the frame is structurally sound, with expected signs of age and minor wear to the gilding.DimensionsPainting: 50 × 59 cmFrame: 105 × 135 cmDepth: 15 cmFor further information, high-resolution photographs or technical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.Worldwide shipping available with professional packaging.
