Inlaid Bureau - Mid-18th Century Tuscany
An important, noble, open-work rosewood cabinet with unique and valuable inlays of various woods.
Inlays depicting grotesques, with a central scene depicting cherubs throwing nectar on a female figure (this suggests that the piece was given as a wedding gift to augur fertility). The back is inlaid with a coat of arms depicting a comet and lily. It certainly belonged to a Tuscan family, as the piece comes from a noble residence in the Florentine countryside.
Fully veneered in rosewood with inlays of various woods, curved legs, interior with drawers and a secret compartment. Poplar interior.
Original in all its parts, ready to be placed.
Origin: Tuscany, mid-18th century.
Measurements: width 99 cm, height 110 cm, depth 52 cm.
