Artist: Louis Audibert (1880-1983)
Portrait of a man by Louis Audibert, a Marseille artist who lived through the 20th century. Charcoal on paper, framed under glass. Grandson of Marseille soap manufacturers, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he lived until 1912 and where he discovered the Impressionists. In 1920, he met and became friends with L.M. Verdilhan and then worked with him in Cassis. He went on to become Winston Churchill's drawing teacher. He was associated with many artists of his generation, such as Albert Marquet and Maurice Kisling. He founded the Union des Arts Plastiques in 1948 and his work was exhibited in numerous collections. He is listed in the Benezit dictionary.
