"Embroidered Silk Liturgical Chasuble, 18th Century."
A very beautiful and substantial antique liturgical chasuble of ample shape, known as a French chasuble, made of embroidered silk with a rich polychrome floral design. The fabric features an elegant pale yellow background adorned with bouquets of flowers and leafy scrolls in pastel shades (pink, green, ivory); typical of 18th-century French textile production in the Louis XV/Louis XVI style. The chasuble is trimmed with antique hand-sewn braid and lined with pink fabric. The wide, flowing cut corresponds to liturgical models predating the rigid Roman chasubles of the 19th century. Condition: excellent condition for an antique textile of this period. Note: an old tear, without loss, which does not detract from the design or the overall appearance (see last photo). - Dimensions of the closed chasuble (first photo): 162 x 132 cm.
