Venus And Cupid Large Cameo Luigi Saulini (1793-1864)
A very finely carved cameo depicting Venus and Cupid. It can be worn as a pendant or brooch. The setting is 18-karat gold. Only the pin and ring are not gold. It is signed Saulini. Tommaso Saulini and his son Luigi were among the most celebrated cameo carvers in 19th-century Rome. Murray's Guides to Rome indicate that he had been working there since 1853. Tommaso Saulini exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1862 and carved cameos for the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert. After Tommaso's death, the workshop was run by his son Luigi until his death in 1883. Condition: Two small cracks are present, more visible on the back. Gross weight: 18.6 g
