We are delighted to offer this exquisite early Victorian solid silver beaker made in London 1839, with an unidentified maker's mark "T.D"

The beaker itself is made from a good gauge of silver and is of fine quality; however, on this particular piece, it is the decoration which is notably outstanding.

Its entire exterior has been profusely hand-engraved with acanthus and floral motifs - one can only imagine the labourious task and immense focus it took for an engraver to complete the overall design without making errors. One accidental slip of the hand and the entire beaker would be lost, having to be melted, putting all the effort of the silversmith (separately from the engraver) to waste.

Furthermore, it is a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of the period; engraving such an extensive surface, let alone a curved one, would have been a costly endeavour and thus also reflects the status of the commissioner/owner.

The interior of the beaker, as well as the cartouche, has been gilded. Gilding has faded on the base, but remnants are still visible.

The beaker would serve as a wonderful display piece, immediately elevating any setting, but better yet, it could also be practically used in the modern day as it remains in good order without any leaks.

Overall, a unique and intricate example of an early Victorian beaker, ideal for collectors of unusual silver or a single impressive accenting piece.

A full set of English hallmarks is present on the side of the beaker.
