Display Cabinet In Marquetry Of Precious Woods, Louis XV-louis XVI Transition Style – First Half Of The 19th Century

This exquisite glass-fronted bookcase embodies the refined craftsmanship of 19th-century Parisian workshops. Made of rosewood and palisander, it captivates with the harmony of its proportions and the richness of its decoration. The two glass doors feature a subtle composition: their solid lower section is adorned with a butterfly-wing veneer formed by four rosewood leaves, framing a finely inlaid palisander panel. This panel reveals a delicate scene depicting a flower basket surmounted by a ribbon, executed with exquisite skill in stained wood marquetry. The upper two-thirds of the doors are glazed, framed by diagonally placed rosewood leaves, highlighted by wide palisander fillets. The gently undulating contours of the glass add a touch of lightness to the whole. The lock is functional, accompanied by a finely chiseled bronze keyhole and escutcheon. The interior reveals four adjustable shelves on a rack, offering ample storage or display space. The chamfered uprights are inlaid with floral marquetry forming a generous frieze that runs the length of the piece, repeated on the upper rail for a continuous decorative effect. At the bottom, a finely crafted bronze mount, composed of scrolling foliage, accentuates the elegance of the front. The straight legs provide a simple and stable base. This display cabinet/bookcase, of remarkable Parisian quality, is distinguished by the delicacy of its craftsmanship and the balance of its decoration. A piece of character, both decorative and functional, ideal for enhancing a classic or eclectic interior.********Period: First half of the 19th century.
